Larry W. Smith, age 88 of Fayetteville, died Friday, March 23, 2012. He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Sally Smith, son, Larry R. Smith, 4 brothers and 3 sisters. Mr. Smith is survived by his wife, Thelma Smith, Fayetteville; grandchildren, Steve and Jennifer Smith, Stockbridge, Rhonda Butler, Arizona, Stuart Smith, Atlanta, Nichole Smith, Dunwoody; great-grandchildren, Robbie Steele, Stockbridge, Andrew Smith, Stockbridge, Dillion Smith, Dunwoody, Gage Smith, Dunwoody. Mr. Smith was retired from the DeKalb County Fire Department where he was Chief of Training, had been director of the Fayette County Fire Department and had finished his career with the Coweta County Fire Department as their Chief. Mr. Smith was a 50 year Mason with Clarkston Lodge 492 and had served in the U.S. Navy during WWII as a gunner. Funeral services will be held Monday, March 26, 2012 at1:00 p.m. at Scot Ward’s Green Meadow Chapel with Rev. Chester Lett officiating; interment will follow at Floral Hills Memory Gardens, Tucker. The family will receive friends Sunday from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m.
